I bought myself an IWD present

Today is International Women’s Day so I treated myself to the above and have set myself the challenge of reading about one  ‘bad girl’ a day. I learnt earlier that womanism does not mean what I thought it did (I though it was a kind of biologically essentialist feminism which is well off the mark) and am reflecting on how embarrassed I was not to have known this and what this says about my privilege and lack of knowledge about black and marginalised feminisms. I want to try and address this so am going to try and spend some time researching womanism and looking into books that I could read on the subject. I can’t articulate it but it really bothers me that I didn’t know this and am now left wondering if my embarrassment (and indeed this post) are symptoms of white guilt and if so, what this means about me and my feminism.
